ESA’s design for the renovation of Rush University’s Primary Care Center in the Lakeview neighborhood was recognized in the December issue of Healthcare Design as a runner-up in the Women’s Health category for their Remodel/Renovation competition. The 3,800 sf center was carefully integrated into a vintage loft building, with eight exam rooms arranged around an open work for for maximum observation and efficiency.
In response to the modern, progressive design that pays homage to the existing construction, the jury noted how “integration of existing building materials (brick, wood columns and joists, ductwork) was handled very well” and that it “takes full advantage of the building context. The contrast between existing timber construction and new elements provides a rich yet economical experience.”
