Walgreen Research and Laboratory Building
New building for NorthShore University HealthSystem housing translational research laboratories
and departmental offices located on the Evanston Hospital Campus

ESA collaborated with Evanston Hospital in all aspects of programming, planning, and design of this six-level, 71,000 sf building. The facility provides much needed space on the Evanston Hospital campus for researchers at the NorthShore University HealthSystem Research Institute to have ready access to patients on research protocols. Its proximity to the hospital’s medical clinics also facilitates patients’ access to the most innovative research technology. An entire floor is dedicated to scientists’ wet labs and another houses the Center for Advanced Imaging, a premier MRI center of international stature. Other levels consolidate hospital administrative functions at one location, thereby freeing valuable hospital space for clinical use. The building’s exterior of brick and cast stone is aesthetically harmonious with the campus’s other buildings. The building shares a lobby with the adjacent Evanston Women’s Hospital.
