The Institute’s 88,000 sf flagship laboratory building is located in the Northwestern University Evanston Research Park and provides 45,000 sf of wet and dry lab space, a 7,000 sf vivarium, administration offices, and conference center. NorthShore University HealthSystem (formerly Evanston Northwestern Healthcare) sought a design that would help recruit and retain nationally prominent researchers. The space needed to meet scientists’ functional needs and encourage collaboration. In a few short years, NorthShore has become one of the top private research hospitals in the country, with the Institute directly linked to this growth.
