ESA teamed with NorthShore University HealthSystem to convert a former two-story Barnes & Noble bookstore into a new medical office building. The interior was renovated to accommodate the new program – orthopaedics, including exam rooms, hand therapy, a procedure room, and three x-ray rooms; physical therapy, including treatment rooms and a gym; and neurology, including exam and procedure rooms and three EMG/EEG rooms.
A large atrium-style opening on the second floor was infilled within the existing building shell to add clinical space. This infill included new foundations, columns and an elevator pit. Additional windows and a new entry canopy were also added to the building.
