Highland Park, Illinois
When Highland Park Hospital merged with NorthShore University HealthSystem in 1999, it entered into a six-year period of renovation and construction. ESA conducted a comprehensive facilities assessment of Highland Park Hospital and identified the need for an overall strategy to update, expand, and reorganize many of the hospital’s internal departments, as well as upgrade its physical plant, site utilities, and campus organization.
In close collaboration with the hospital, ESA developed and implemented a masterplan for the 25-acre site based on improved traffic circulation, parking with landscaped buffers, and clearly identified entrances to the main lobby and Emergency Department. The plan also included a new 60,000 sf Ambulatory Care Center, a new 30,000 sf Central Plant, and two parking garages for 1,100 cars.
Expansions and renovations within the hospital include a new Emergency Department; Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Angiography Suite; Outpatient Treatment Center; Breast Center; public lobby and registration; Dialysis Unit; MRI, and public amenities.
