Glenbrook Hospital ED Expansion

1190C.2 1190D.2 1190G.2

Glenview, Illinois
After 20 years of growing patient demand, The Glenbrook hospital emergency department had insufficient treatment bays, poor circulation patterns, poor patient privacy, no physician privacy for charting and no ability to handle a large inflow of patients in a catastrophic event. ESA’s design solution involved a complete phased reconstruction of the department in its existing location, including a new addition of 20,000 SF adjacent to the existing department and a subsequent reworking of the old ED into staff space and a new fast-track clinical area.
The new improvements feature 30 treatment rooms, large open nursing/physician core, enclosed ambulance bay holding 4 vehicles, dedicated fast track unit, triage bays adjacent to waiting, reception, staff lockers and conference areas. The new department is designed to handle 45,000 patient visits annually and to adjust to the fluctuations in patient volume without over staffing.
