Old St. Patrick's Church

Campus masterplan implementation
Chicago, Illinois

Construction has begun on the final phase of the old Saint Patrick's Campus in the near west loop. The outdoor space  will connect the historic 1856 Romanesque church designed by Augustus Bauer and Asher Carter with the recently completed Francis Xavier School by ESA. The courtyard connects the lower  church hall  and the public areas of the adjacent school with an exterior gathering space for events, social occasions and school activities.  An exterior masonry arcade, housing a new accessible elevator entry to the church will create closure for the space along DesPlaines Street.  The original north wall of the church with its beautiful celtic inspired stained glass by Thomas O’Shaugnessy will be the featured backdrop for the landscaped courtyard.
