Skokie Hospital
Phase I completed 2010; Phase II under construction.
Expansion and renovation of 24-acre campus
Skokie, Illinois
When complete, ESA's multi-phased implementation of Skokie Hospital's masterplan will include approximately 155,000 sf of new space and the renovation of approximately 55,000 sf. Integral to the campus transformation is a new atrium lobby, the first phase of which was completed in 2010, which integrates the health system’s design standards and creates an open and refreshing environment. The atrium lobby will serve as the heart of the hospital and will eventually connect via a glass-enclosed bridge to the new 130,000 sf Ambulatory Care Center, currently in design.
The hospital’s first floor is being reorganized to upgrade existing clinical departments, reflect advancements in medicine and technology, bring the facility up to code, and optimize efficiencies with the health system’s other campuses. The primary components of the interior renovation include a new 10,500 sf Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory with room for expansion; a 7,500 sf Cardiology and Nuclear Medicine Suite that will include a PET CT and associated support space; an 11,000 sf Radiology Suite to serve both inpatient and outpatient populations featuring two MRIs, two CTs, four Xray rooms, two ultrasound rooms, and two vascular ultrasound rooms. Future projects include a 14,000 sf renovation and expansion of the GI Unit.
As part of the effort to integrate laboratory services within the hospital, a 10,000 sf Clinical Laboratory was located adjacent to the surgery and inpatient units. Completed in 2010, it was designed to ensure future flexibility for advancements in equipment and processes.
