Glenbrook Hospital
Under construction. 250,000 sf hospital expansion
Glenview, Illinois
This multi-phased, $70 million expansion of 250,000 sf to Glenbrook Hospital's 55-acre campus increases the hospital's capacity to service the community's healthcare needs and includes a new Emergency Department; Interventional Radiology Wing; and a 174,000 sf LEED certified Ambulatory Care Center that will house the Kellogg Cancer Care Center and other outpatient treatment units. A new glass-enclosed main entry lobby will feature such visitor amenities as an upscale café, gift shop, and pharmacy.
The expanded 22,000 sf Emergency Department will accommodate 45,000 annual patient visits with 30 new trauma and treatment rooms, a fast-track suite; expanded nurse, physician, and staff facilities; a large ambulance holding bay; and new walk-in patient/family waiting, reception, counseling, and triage areas. Skylights and clerestories will provide abundant natural light in the core treatment area while new parking areas and separate entries for ambulance and walk-in traffic will improve patient flow. The expansion is being phased to ensure continual use throughout the project duration.
The new Interventional Radiology Wing includes three MRIs, two cardiac catheterization procedure rooms, and two interventional radiology labs, as well as a new CT scanner, large staff viewing rooms, an Xray room, and dedicated patient flow areas. The updated department locates all similar equipment in close proximity for maximum staff efficiency and allows for easy change-out of major pieces directly through exterior walls. A new second floor will accommodate mechanical infrastructure and 5,000 sf of hospital administrative offices.
ESA has worked on the Glenbrook Hospital campus since 1993; a 150,000 sf bed tower addition was completed in 2002.
