Highland Park Hospital

Masterplan of 25-acre campus
Highland Park, Illinois

When Highland Park Hospital merged with Evanston Northwestern Healthcare (now NorthShore University HealthSystem) in 1999, it entered into a six-year period of renovation and construction. ESA conducted a comprehensive facilities assessment of Highland Park Hospital and identified the need for an overall strategy to update, expand, and reorganize many of the hospital's internal departments, as well as upgrade its physical plant, site utilities, and campus organization.

In close collaboration with the hospital, ESA developed a masterplan for the 25-acre site based on improved traffic circulation, parking with landscaped buffers, and clearly identified entrances to the main lobby and Emergency Department. The plan also included a new 60,000 sf Ambulatory Care Center, a new central plant, and two parking garages.
