Highland Park Hospital Central Plant and Parking Structures

Central Plant and Parking for 1,100 Cars
Highland Park, Illinois

As part of $80 million in phased improvements to the 25-acre campus of this 150-bed acute care hospital, the new 30,000 sf central plant houses boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and emergency power generation for the existing hospital and all future additions. The architecture unifies existing campus structures and connects to the two-level parking garage. The plant’s brick skin with limestone accents and glass-enclosed communication stairs blends the structure’s facade with the adjacent wings. Horizontal ribbons of glass block allow natural light into the plant's interior while masking views of the equipment within. The two new parking structures accommodate 1,100 cars and total 378,000 sf.
